RISK ASSESSMENT

Support your organisation by being proactive about risk management.

What is Risk Assessment?

Risks are the effect of uncertainty on an organisation’s objectives, including potential threats and also opportunities.

Why does this matter?

Being proactive about risk management can minimise risk impacts and likelihood, and maximise opportunities. Think of it like identifying the potential of a loose electrical cord dangling across the roof and being close to the sink. There is the potential that it could fall into the sink, or the opportunity to fix the ceiling and cover up the cord. Risks are part of everyday life and most of the time we don’t even notice the measures put in place to mitigate them. But in your organisation, they are your responsibility.

What does this look like when it's managed well?

It looks like the organisation is careful and aware. It feels safer working for an organisation where the leadership have put their mind to this area. Good risk management sets the scene for clear and transparent decision making. There is a supportive culture where employees and volunteers can safely call out issues and are confident the risks are addressed.

What does this look like when it's not managed well?

It feels scary, as there is uncertainty about the risks that can and cannot be taken, the potential impacts are not understood and decisions are made without taking risk into consideration. It might feel like there are unsafe hazards or that an organisation is not taking action to make necessary changes.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land and waters and their knowledge of the places where we gather to collaborate and strengthen communities. In our work, we recognise the importance of Country, not just as a place, but how it also maintains community, family, kin, lore and language. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. This always was, always will be, Aboriginal land. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
