The Benefolk story
Founded in 2018 as The Xfactor Collective, we’re an Australian professional services intermediary focused on the social sector. Our name literally means ‘good folk’. ‘Bene’ reflects the many good things associated with our sector - such as benefit, benefactor, and benevolent – while ‘folk’ speaks to the wonderful people who make up the sector.
We connect not-for-profits, charities and impact-focussed businesses to the very best professional services and resources. We believe all social changemakers should be able to achieve their mission without burning out – which is our raison d’être.
In research we undertook in 2020, 45% of sector professionals told us they feel anxious, overwhelmed or stressed always or often - we’re here to help reverse that.
Over the last five years, we’ve developed a way of working that enables changemakers to access the support they need to make an impact, and still be there for the long haul. In fact, 95% of organisations who buy services or access resources tell us their mental health and well-being have improved by working this way.
We’ve assembled 40+ independent consultants, coaches, trainers, and professional services with a deep understanding of the sector and brought them together to support your goals.

Our impact
Benefolk has its gestation in the experience of its founder, Julia Keady, who consulted for nearly 10 years before taking on CEO roles in the sector. In Julia’s words, she’s built the organisation she wished she’d had when she was leading a not-for-profit - “Easy access to trusted specialists who get it and can support you to get stuff done.”

After five years of learning and evolving, we’ve changed the model to ensure the Benefolk Services team is part of every engagement, acting as a central coordination point and taking care of administration. Of course, there’s a lot more to this story - countless hours of identifying problems, figuring things out and hitting dead ends. Rallying people to hear the call, get involved and collaborate – in short using the power of leverage.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved with our small but dedicated team, thanks to the support of our Network Members and Partners, and look forward to the next chapter.
