Nearly 10 years ago, I read about this guy Peter Hero, who literally put philanthropy, community foundations, impact investing and so much more on the map.
He contributed SO much to the culture that we have today around the world on philanthropy. Such a quiet leader in progressing this movement, and helping us all reach our potential in creating the world we want to see and leave behind ...
For me – who was learning about the sector through my time in USA – he made philanthropy look so sexy and it was the reason I fly home from the USA and jumped into a Masters in Philanthropy here in Melbourne.
10 years on … he just passed away last week. Almost unrecognised here in Australia. Yet he gave so much to the sector here and made such a difference in so many lives.
He leaves with us a wheelbarrow to keep pushing: break boundaries, think outside square, break with convention, question everything, inspire others.
Most of all, allow your humanity to shine in all you do. Thanks Peter for inspiring me into this profession. Much gratitude to a life well lived.
This is a lovely (albeit brief) tribute to a great man.
